The big recruiting weekend has paid off for University of Kentucky women’s basketball coach Matthew Mitchell, who picked up a verbal commitment.
Arlington (Texas) Timberview guard Meagan Conwright made a visit to the campus last weekend and on Monday night gave a verbal to the Wildcats.
The 5-foot-9 Conwright averaged 13.3 points a game last season and picked UK over TCU, SMU and Southern Mississippi. She has led her team in steals for three straight years.
“She’s the best defneisve player I have ever coached or been around,” veteran Timberview coach Candi Harvey said. “She’s smart. She’s tough as nails. She plays hurt and plays tired.
“If you are getting defender for four quarters or two halves by Meagan, you won’t forget it. She’s just so tenacious on defense.”
Conwright is the third 2010 commitment for the UK women, joining Lexington Christian’s Sarah Beth Barnette and Nelson County’s Samantha Drake.
